I Should Have Studied More

I failed my pre-glucose test today. That doesn't mean I have pregnancy diabetes. It means I have to have a more intensive test done to find out if I do. If I do have it, diet had nothing to do with it. My doctor said it's the pregnancy hormone that is produced that causes it and there's nothing I could have done to prevent it, if I have it.

So tomorrow morning I go back to my doctor's at 7:30 a.m. for a four (yes 4) hour glucose test. I have to fast about 8 hours beforehand, that's why it's so early. They take my blood when I get there, I drink some nasty, strong stuff, I sit for an hour, they take my blood again, I sit for an hour, they take my blood and so forth for about 4 hours. If I fail two of those tests, I have pregnancy diabetes. If I do have it, my doctor will send me to a dietician to put me on a diabetes diet for the rest of my pregnancy. Once I have the baby, the diabetes will be gone.

My doctor's office does have internet so I can bring my laptop and maybe do some work (maybe) and play on the internet. I'm also re-reading Harry Potter 7 (British Version) so I can do that as well. Since there was nothing I could have done to prevent it, if I have it, it will be ok. I'll just miss the things I won't be able to eat during the rest of my pregnancy.

Yuck, I hate that 4-hour glucose test. Good luck with it, I hope it goes well!

Oh no! I hope you pass next time... that doesn't sound fun!

But you will be a rockin' mamma soon, so it's all worth it!! :)

I completely forgot to not eat breakfast when I did my normal test so I failed it and had to do the big 4 hour one. It was pretty boring and I didn't like being pricked twice in each arm, but oh well. It was my own fault.

I hope it goes well for you!
