I went to a musical last night and was shocked and amazed at how rude people still are at the theater.
If you have someone going to the theater with you who does not want to be there, don't make them go. They will kick the seat in front of them (my seat) through the whole show because they won't sit still. It doesn't matter how old they are (this kid was about 17 or 18). And if your kid or someone in your group is kicking someone's chair, MAKE THEM STOP, before someone else makes them stop (and it won't be pleasant).
If you are sitting in the front row at a theater in the round, don't make fun of the show. Don't cover your face with your program when the actors are near you. It's rude to the actors and the other audience memebers that you're pulling focus and mocking them. This is to the three ladies at "Curtains" last night on the front row, north east section (yes I will name names - if I knew their names). Two of them were wearing red jackets and one was in a gray jacket. I was getting embarressed for them at how they were acting.
I know that a lot of people think it's more important to get people in the seats and sell tickets then the politeness of the audience, but why can't we have both. I do hope that if the ushers notice this behavior that they say something to the patrons. Or if the actors notice a rude patron, that they inform the stage manager or someone and they talk to the patron or remove them from the theater. No one deserves to be treated badly, especially when they have worked really hard for your enjoyment.
Stepping off of soap box now.
