Suess!!

"Oh the Thinks you can Think!"
I can't believe that the show is over! The past few months have gone by fast. It seemed like forever ago that we started, but the performance dates came up quickly. This production has been one of the best I've been involved with. I loved working with every single person (and married...heehee!!) in the show. The talent overwhelmed me. Everyone gave 100% to make this the best production. We even broke some attendance records. My body is happy that the show is over so it can rest and heal but my heart and spirit are sad that I can't dance and sing around the stage with everyone.

Things I learned during Seussical:
1. When the internet says you are a certain size in men's shoes if you wear an 8 1/2 in women's, they lie. Buy one size bigger.
2. Men's clothing is not always flattering on women.
3. White girls can sing with soul.
4. Don't trust a bird with big feathers. She'll just get you addicted to pills and dump her kid onto some helpless guy.
5. Taking the shirt off of a 12 year old girl is very nerve racking.
6. There are plenty of people in the theater world willing to violate you to put your mic pack on and off of you.
7. Faux-hawks are styling!
8. Throwing fake snow at people is really fun.
9. If you talk to the audience, someone will always respond.
10. Water is our friend.
11. Potty Trains are the most fun trains to be on.
12. No one likes "barbie" hands.
13. There's always room for another ripple.
14. If you can't remember your line, just yell "Tree!"
15. Sometimes you have to double up the "mic protectors" and apparently the brand matters.
16. Kids will always love you and hug you when you're not feeling like yourself.
17. Don't trust monkey's or eagles.
18. Sometimes the person who can help you out the best is as close as next door. They'd be willing to trample through trees, be attacked by a vicious dog and break their little toe to help you find what you need.
19. The theater world isn't perfect, but we do our best.
20. A person's a person, no matter how small.

To my loving Seussical cast, I love each and every one of you and I hope that you always know how much you mean to me. You will always be in my heart. To the production staff, thanks for your hard work and for showing us we can do more then we think we can. To my besty, I love you very much and thank you for this opportunity. Also, thank you for showing things about myself that I don't notice or forget. Thanks for always believing in me.

R.I.P. Michael!!

You will be missed. Yes you had weird quirks but you were extremely talented!!

Ouch!! Silly Cement Stage

Shin Splints is a general term used to refer to painful condition in the shins. It is often caused by running or jumping, and may be very slow to heal. A formal medical term for the condition is medial tibila stress syndrome. One cause is an overused muscle, either as an acute injury or delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). The muscle pain is caused by any activity that involves running, jumping, also sometimes even walking. Untreated shin splints can lead to a stress reaction mid-shaft in the tibia, which can eventually lead to a stress fracture. A stress fracture can be diagnosed by a bone scan or an MRI and takes much longer to heal than shin splints.

The immediate treatment for shin splints is rest. Running and other strenuous lower limb activities, like basketball and other sports which include flexing the muscle, should be avoided until the pain subsides and is no longer elicited by activity. In conjuction with rest, anti-inflammatory treatments such as icing and drugs, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be suggested by a doctor or athletic trainer. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also be taken. Furthermore, the lower legs may be taped to stablized and take some load off the periosteum. Finally, using good shoes is important.

Thank you Stephanie M for all of the advice and help you have given me over the past few days. They are not as bad as the first day. I'm taking it easy, taping my legs, drinking lots of water and milk, eating banana's and papaya, taking my drugs and wearing my insoles. Thank you!!

To My Wadsworth Friends

Dear Wadsworth Family,
I'm soooo sorry that I missed seeing Oklahoma. Since I'm in Seussical, the only night I could come see Oklahoma was Saturday the 13th. The only problem with that, was the weather. That Saturday we had a big rehearsal then built our set. Because the rain was so bad it took longer to finish. We didn't get to a point of leaving until 9ish (and we're still not done). So I am sorry that I missed your production. I REALLY wanted to see your whole family perform.
Love,
Your Terrible Friend,
Candice

p.s. And Mandee and Wretchel and all of my other friends that were in the production that I totally blanked on. I'm horrible!

Come See Suessical!!!

The Midvale Arts Council will present "Seussical", June 19 - 27 (nightly except Sunday), 7:30 pm at the Midvale Outdoor Stage in the Park, 400 West 7500 South.

Now one of the most performed shows in America, "Seussical" is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty ("Ragtime," "Once On This Island") have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination--Jojo.

The story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge--not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes "his kind and his powerful heart." Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant, in a story that makes you laugh and cry.

The show is being directed by Stephanie Johnson, with musical direction by Tammy Morgan and choreography by Emilee Stokes and Stephanie Maag. The cast includes as Cat in the Hat - Candice J. Jorgensen, JoJo - Gracie Vesley, Horton - Jeremy Wing, Gertrude - Casey Matern, Mayzie - Elisha Jorgensen, and as Sour Kangaroo - Lorri L. Cerva.

Tickets are $5 general admission, $3 children and seniors and may be purchased at the door or in advance at http://www.midvalearts.com/. Group discounts and $20 family passes (one household) are also available. Seating is on the grass so please bring lawn chairs & blankets.
